这两个词共同的意思是“相反的”。它们的区别在于：
1.opposite指位置、方向、性质、意义等对立、相反,不一定有对抗的意味,强调分离。
2.contrary指“对立的”,常有对抗的含义,强调敌对矛盾和冲突。例如:
I am of a contrary opinion.我有相反的意见。
前者用于表示相反的意见,强调否认或反驳; 而后者用于说明问题的另一方面,即“另一方面,但是,然而”。
这些形容词都含“相反的、对立的”之意。
opposite指位置、方向、行动或想法等完全相反。
contrary一般指与某种主张、看法或行为等正好相反，隐含否定一方并不意味着肯定另一方的意味。
adverse通常指违害利益的、无生命的势力或条件等，侧重分歧。
reverse指朝相反方向的或反面(背面)的。
converse指在方向、行动或意见上相反的。
