这两个词都有“高,高度”的意思。它们之间的区别是:
1.height是日常用语,可指相对高度,也可指绝对高度; altitude是科技术语,主要指超过地平面或海平面等已知平面的高度,即绝对高度。例如:
This is a city with an altitude of 3848 feet.这是一座海拔3848英尺的城市。
In the high altitudes snow and ice remain all the year round.在海拔高的地方,冰雪终年不化。
2.height可用于比喻义,意为“顶点,极点”; 而altitude则无此义。

altitude指海拔高度，也指离开地面的高度。
