社会学是社会科学中的一门学科。这一学科名称是法国哲学家、实证主义和社会学创始人孔德（Auguste Comte，1798-1857）于1838年首先提出的，法语作sociologie。英语于1843年借用了这个词，并将它英语化为sociology。
