The effects of erythromycin on energy-transducing functions of chloroplasts were investigated. The following results were obtained: 1. At the concentration of 10~ (-4) M, erythromycin inhibited both cyclic and noncyclic photophosphorylation in isolated spinach chloroplasts.

This phenomenon may have some relation to the extraordinarily low capacity of ATP formation of noncyclic photophosphorylation at the early stage of greening.
