The basic formula of the design flow rate for domestic hot water supply is investigated on the basis of probability method. The relationship between water supply assurance factor and the quantity of sanitary fittings operated simultaneously which is used to determine the design flow rate is analyzed.

The design flow rate calculated by the probability method has already considered the effects of combination of different consumption units, consumption loading per unit and the total amount of sanitary fittings.
