两者都可作“在…名单上”解。它们的区别仅在于in the list of是英式英语,而on the list of是美式英语。

这几个词都有“表”“单”“册”的意思。它们的区别在于:catalogue是按字母顺序或其他方法排列的;而list则仅指列表,有时不必有严格的顺序;roll指人的花名册,尤指属于团体或军事单位的全体人员名册;table指便于迅速查阅的目录、表格。例如:

This is the list of the people who are going to the picnic.这是打算参加野炊的人员名单。

The teacher read the roll of graduates.教师宣读毕业生名单。

这两个词都有“记录”的意思。它们的区别在于:

1.record指对事件或情况的记载; register指正式的或官方的登记或注册。例如:

Some records of ancient civilization were discovered recently.最近发现了一些古代文明的史料。

By law we are required to keep a register of births and deaths.法律要求我们对出生和死亡进行登记。

2.record还有“履历”的意思,而register则没有此义。例如:

The commander had an outstanding record in leading the army against the enemy.指挥官率领军队抗敌,功勋卓著。
